About the College

Seemanta Mahavidyalaya was established on 13th August 1979 by ceaseless efforts of the local stalwants. The college started off in modest thatched house with 99 students and 14 numbers of staff. In 1980 the college was shifted to the existing building constructed by the management committee with land area of 15 acres obtained from the Govt. of Odisha.  Subsequently the college began to expand its academic branches keeping harmony with the sweet flow of the river Subarnarekha. Intermediate in Science was introduced in 1981-82 and Commerce in 1984-85. In 1986-87 the college attained the status of a full fledged degree college. The college imparts the teaching faculties of Honours courses in the subjects of Economics, Political Science, History, Anthropology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. 

The open book stands for pursuit of knowledge, immeasurable wisdom and welcomes evermore that the aspirant human minds need in order to widen the far-reaching horizon of human cognizance through incessant study and research work. The burning candle relates to the enlightenment that dispels the darkness engulfing the human mind and thus embarks on a brighter future. The scientific instruments infuse general human knowledge with scientific ideas of ingenuity. The symbolic representation of the perennials stream at the bottom is the river ‘Subarnarekha’ perpetually cascading through Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal harmonizing the cultural and linguistic ethos of these states from time immemorial. The majestic peacocks fill the heart with the sweet memory of the historical ‘Bhanja’ dynasty that ruled the Ex-State of Mayurbhanj.
